We begin with a detailed discussion of your symptoms, your life circumstances, and your medical history. This forms the basis for the diagnosis, upon which all further steps are built—including a second opinion, if desired.

We’ll discuss together whether medication is appropriate. I’ll evaluate the effectiveness and tolerability of any existing medication and adjust it as needed over time.

At your request, I will involve family members or confidants in your treatment—either in joint appointments or in separate sessions. You decide what is discussed during these sessions.

Laboratory results show whether a medication is within the effective range and how well it is tolerated. Blood draws can be performed in the office; this also allows us to rule out physical causes of psychological symptoms.

As a board-certified specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy, I offer both services in the same practice. We’ll decide together whether talk therapy alone is sufficient, whether medication should be added, or whether a combination is appropriate, and we’ll monitor progress over time.

Before and during medication treatment, I monitor heart function as needed—several psychotropic medications can affect electrical conduction. The ECG is performed at the office; a referral is not necessary.
