There are many different methods described under the general term facelift, but their results are limited and rather short-lived. Precise knowledge of the anatomical structures of the face is a prerequisite for a successful facelift. The goal of a facelift is to achieve the best possible lifting of sagging facial structures through the smallest possible scars. Attempting to achieve this tightening effect through the skin, as was previously common, is hardly feasible and leads to artificially lifted facial changes. The procedure of choice is a facelift, in which the actual tightening is achieved through the muscle layer located beneath the skin, called the platysma in the neck area and the SMAS (superficial musculoapeunoreutic system) in the facial area. Once this framework is stabilized, the remaining excess skin can be removed without tension. A facelift has no effect on the area around the mouth, with its small lip lines, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines extending downward from the corner of the mouth. Additional measures would be required for this.Additionally, a forehead lift, temporal lift, eye lift, or midface lift can be performed.

Wrinkles caused by loss of skin or subcutaneous fat can be filled with autologous fat, collagen, or fillers. Fillers can be used to treat the forehead, temples, eyebrow wrinkles, lower eyelid contours, cheeks, nasolabial folds, lips, corner-of-the-mouth wrinkles, and even the décolleté. The effect lasts 4-6 months and can be repeated.
